Classic Cakes was started in 1995 by Ilene McHone. Ilene's interest in cake decorating began as a teenager when she saw beautiful cakes made by a family friend. Then her sister bought a decorating kit and Ilene took that opportunity to begin ''playing in sugar''.

In college, she began making wedding cakes for her friends. After teaching school for nine years, Ilene turned her attention to full-time cake decorating. Now she manages a staff of talented cake decorators. Ilene and her employees have won numerous awards for their outstanding ''sugar art'' on the local, state, and national level.
